More Exposure For JibberJobber

More Exposure For JibberJobber I feel uncomfortable with these posts because (a) Im not sure it adds any value to YOU, and your career situation, and (b) it feels like bragging, and (c) if I had a PR or Marketing professional on staff they would probably tell me to do it differently. Alas, if I dont do it I get dozens of e-mails from people saying HELLO! Tell the world all the cool stuff that you are accomplishing! So instead of posting separately for each mention, I try and bunch them all together. And what better way to end this week and start February, but with a summary of awesome in the news mentions. First, this is the second time that Sree included JibberJobber in his Sree Advice spot on wnbc Channel 4 in New York. Its always fun to get hundreds of new signups from New York and New Jersey, as I picture them saying, in that NY accent, How ya doin? Anyway, heres a link to the video: I should mention, with regard to the six degrees of separation thing, I had a neat experience with this. One of my good friends, Bill Sobel, master networking and media expert in NYC, heard that I wanted to thank Sree but I havent been able to get in touch with him. Bill wrote to me and said, I know Sree really well! Hes presented at my marketing network groups! Go figure I had no idea that one of my close contacts was close to someone who has put me in the news spotlight! Lesson learned? Let your contacts know what you are trying to do, and you might be surprised who comes out and says I can help you! Second, in one of my funnest podcast interviews yet I share wisdom and thoughts to a younger crowd. Ive been following Chris Penn for a while, after getting introduced by Dan Johnson (thanks Dan!). We finally connected for a while to record this podcast I would recommend you check it out, and if you know anyone in school, or who wants to go to school, definitely get hooked up with the Financial Aid Podcast site they have awesome (legitimate) information on how to get money for school. Third, I was honored to write an article for one of two local business magazines here in Salt Lake. I dont do much locally, so this was a good opportunity to work on my local branding. Ive gotten e-mails and maybe some business from it. The big surprise was seeing the article placed as a feature article, as opposed to one of those introductory half-articles that I thought it was going to be. Fourth, I had a local radio reporter call to see if he could come to my office for an interview on when your personal and professional profiles collide. It actually turned out well, much better than the first time we interviewed, and Im very thankful for the opportunity. It aired on the morning commute so I had a number of people say I heard you on the radio! These are people who still think Im um, in a job search :p That link goes to the audio. the transcript is here. Im amazed at how stupid the comments are. I cant even describe them, youll have to read them if you want to see how many people think that posting pictures on MySpace and Facebook is off-limits for HR, recruiters and hiring managers to find. More on that later! As a bonus, when he came out to interview me, he saw my neighbors awesome snow fort. My neighbor took four days to put this together, and luckily the reporter thought it was dang cool. He did a short video interview as he pans around the fort he gets my house in the background! So there you go. January has been amazing, and its been fun to see the fruits of my labors pay off in various ways. Thank you for letting me brag, just a little More Exposure For JibberJobber I feel uncomfortable with these posts because (a) Im not sure it adds any value to YOU, and your career situation, and (b) it feels like bragging, and (c) if I had a PR or Marketing professional on staff they would probably tell me to do it differently. Wall Street Whiplash Shakes Job Seeker Confidence - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Wall Street Whiplash Shakes Job Seeker Confidence - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Waiting in line for hours to spend 90 seconds strapped in tight zooming up, down and around. This is a kid’s dream; riding roller coasters all day with their heart pounding and their stomach high up in their throat as they zoom down a track at 65mph turning and flipping. Wall Street’s weeklong whiplash The past few weeks look as though a roller coaster engineer has conducted Wall Street. When the market closed on August 12th, it had a week that only a kid on a roller coaster would have liked; Monday fell 634 points, Tuesday rose 429 points, Wednesday fell 519 points and, on the back of investors grasping to the few signs of an economic recovery, it recorded a 423 point gain, one of the biggest of all time on Thursday. The depths of The Great Recession, which began four years ago in 2007, is hard to feel for job seekers or Americans of any kind when Wall Street, The SP and European markets are bouncing up and down like a basketball in the final 2 minutes of the NBA finals game. Main Street’s response Will Main Street be able to withstand continued effects of The Great Recession? Market experts claimed The Great Recession ended in 2009 yet if you visit Main Street (take Mullen, GA for example), Americans will tell the reality of how their lives are as touch and go as the current market. The Great Recession is still alive and well. Two tips to pull through Tip #1: Persevere Americans are known for perseverance and it’s this exact skill set that will allowed the country to triumph during The Great Depression. The same perseverance has seen a factory worker in Mullen, GA, who was unemployed for over 2 years, secure a community college special needs teaching certificate and, just last week, land a new job as a teaching assistant. This perseverance pulled a family through when both parents lost their jobs, and family business. After 18 months of struggle, dad has a landscape maintenance job and mom has found a new business that allows them to meet the daily bills. Perseverance pays. Tip #2: Stay The Course If there’s one common theme with clients that land new jobs sooner than others, it’s those who know what they want and stay focused. When you create a clear, concise and focused personal brand message, you make it easy for others to help you. They know what you do well, what type of position you will fit into at their organization (or other) and who might be a good contact for you to meet. In todays ever-unpredictable world I am reminded of what I was told by a colleague years ago; you can only control what you do, think, say and feel. Let that be your focus and let the rest of the world (e.g. Wall Street, SP, Main Street, Hiring Managers) take care of their own issues. Inspirational Movies Every Entrepreneur Should Watch - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Inspirational Movies Every Entrepreneur Should Watch - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Being an entrepreneur is not easy. It is a long journey that is full of challenges and problems. In order to overcome these problems, you need to think out of the box, improve yourself constantly and learn from your mistakes. However, you can also learn from other people’s mistakes and movies are a great way for this.  Therefore, as an entrepreneur, whenever you need a break or some motivation, watch the below movies and inspire yourself. Forrest Gump: Forrest Gump is a great movie which shows that everyone in life can be successful, if they make the right decisions at the right time. You don’t need to be a genius to achieve something in life. Just believe in yourself and use the opportunities presented to you wisely. Know what you are good at, what you like and do not limit yourself. Define your own destiny for yourself. Do not let others define your destiny for you. Social Network: No one says it is easy to turn a dream into a reality with billion users but it is doable. The important point is to take action and execute your idea into something which others can use and brings value to them. Don’t forget that everybody can think the same idea but not everybody can turn it into a product. Therefore, idea itself is not enough to start a business. You need a minimum viable product. Also, another important lesson is that do not betray your friends no matter what. Friendships are priceless! Startup.com: Don’t wait for your product to be perfect to release it. Make the minimum viable product and change it along the way listening to your customers. Otherwise, competitors can make similar products and beat you at the market. Start from the most needed features and then, add other features if your customers request it. Use the lean startup methodology. Also, always use your money wisely. Learn how to manage a budget properly. Chef: You can turn your life around, if you follow your true passion. Don’t let failure demotivate you. Always chase your dreams. Also, don’t underestimate the power of social media and use social media channels whenever you can to market your business. Another important lesson we can learn from this movie is to choose your business partner wisely. S/he should be someone that you can trust and help you out in your challenging days. Moreover, you need to share the same vision as a team, if you want to become successful.
